A New Generation of Leadership

I am running for State Senate in District 44 because I believe Indiana is ready for a new generation of leadership.

We need leadership now that’s dedicated to bringing new jobs and new business to our area and our state. We also need a leadership that understands the important role education plays in creating and fostering these opportunities, and also providing people hope and encouragement that they can do more, be more, than they ever thought was possible.

I promise to listen and engage. I promise to earn every vote, and meet with as many people as I can. I don’t just want to talk about issues, I want to listen and debate. I believe that true change can only come when we sit down together, as neighbors, with mutual respect.

I am running because I truly believe in Indiana’s potential. I am asking you to vote this year for a new Indiana, a new generation of leadership, and more importantly, a new personal sense of what is possible, when we work together.

Sincerely,

 Matthew S. Colglazier

Matt spent the weekend supporting several local causes including the Old Schoolhouse in Leipsic and the lights in Huron. In doing so we enjoyed some great Chili and met many constituents. Below is a picture from Oktoberfest several weeks ago that we just received an scanned in - we couldn't resist posting it since it's the most supportive hat we've seen throughout the whole campaign.

Yesterday evening Matt participated in a candidate forum at Oakland City University. The forum featured the five cadidates for the Statehouse in Lawrence County and focussed on jobs and the local economy. Matt shared his vision for Southern Indiana and stayed afterwards to answer questions from those in attendance. You can read more about the event in the Bedford Times-Mail article linked below.

It's hard to believe that today's Fort Vallonia Days parade will be our last one before the election, but we're definitely going out with a bang. The crowds were huge today and this, our 13th parade, was truly a grand finale!  The fall festival was a great family event and Matt enjoyed seeing everyone out on such a beautiful day. We wrapped up the day with dinner at the Pleasant Run Volunteer Fire Department in Heltonville. They hold their fish fry fundraiser in the spring and fall and it's always a treat. It's such a small way to support the immense work that these dedicated men and women do for our community.

As we're nearing the home stretch of the election, Matt spent the weekend meeting voters around the district. He visited the Brownstown Lutheran Central School Fall Chili supper on Friday evening. On Saturday, he and Laurie stopped by the Orleans Farmers Market and Fall Festival, the Shop with a Cop Car Show in Beford and the Southeast Volunteer Fire Department Bean Supper in Valeene. Below is a photograph of a demonstration and training exercise that the firefighters performed at the the event in Valeene. Their dedication to such an important volunteer activity is truly remarkable.

Matt and Laurie ushered in the first weekend of October with the festivities of Oktoberfest in Seymour this weeknd. Saturday's parade was one of the largest we've been in throughout the campaign and had a huge crowd. Matt also enjoyed the special concert at This Old Guitar in Seymour on Saturday evening as part the Oktoberfest celebrations. Matt and Laurie attended Bedford's Fall Lions Club Pancake Breakfast on Saturday morning along with a large crowd from Lawrence County. For anyone who hasn't registered to vote yet, tomorrow, Monday October 6, is the last day to register to vote for the November election in Indiana. What a week it's been! The Persimmon Festival in Mitchell was outstanding this week and the attendance was amazing. Matt participated in the parade on Saturday and was greeted by some very enthusiastic friends and supporters along the route. The theme was "Hometown Heroes" and the parade truly felt like a tribute to some of Lawrence County's finest men and women. Thank you to all who made this event such a success.

Matt participated in activities at and around Old Settlers Days all weekend in Salem. It was a beautiful weekend to celebrate the arrival of fall and visit with old and new friends. We especially enjoyed a visit to the newly restored and recently opened Beck's Mill as part of the celebration. It's been a labor of love for many Washington county residents to restrore and open the Mill and it was an exciting time to visit!

With just a month and a half to go before the election, Matt is busier than ever meeting voters. Last weekend we participated in the Oolitic Festival Parade on Saturday and then attended an ice cream social in Wililams on Sunday that was a great success. We hope to see you at Old Settlers Day in Salem this weekend!

Yesterday Matt and Laurie joined about 100 Orange County residents at a Rally for Change. Matt was one of three speakers at the event, the other two were Representative Sandy Blanton and Vietnam War Veteran Gary May. It was a great event and the weather couldn't have been better.

We've added a whole new page on the website with lots of photos from the walk - take a look and enjoy! Matt has completely recovered from the long walk and is enjoying time with family and friends over the rest of the Labor Day Weekend. Below is the group photo we took at the end of the walk - view many more on the Walk for Workers page.

With sore feet but equally high spirits, Matt completed his 37.4 mile Walk for Workers today around 8:45pm in Seymour's Gaiser Park! There were about 20 people who finished the walk with him and celebrated in the park. We have a lot of great photos and will have them up very soon. Many, many thanks to everyone who helped make this important event a success.

The Walk for Workers is off to a GREAT start! We had a nice crowd join us this morning and Matt is well on his way. I just got to a computer to post an update on the website. We had a group join us for the walk from Visteon to Otis Park and then I continued on with him until the 10 mile mark. We had some great friends and volunteers pick up from there and they are keeping him company on the journey. I'll have some pictures later today - Laurie C.

This past weekend Matt and several volunteers participated in the Brownstown MelonFest Parade. The parade was great and the ice cold slices of watermelon provided by the Lions Club were amazing!

A beautiful 80 degree day made this afternoon perfect for the VJ Day Parade in Seymour. We had great volunteers to help us and loved seeing all the veterans who were honored in today's event.

We wrapped up last weekend with the conclusion of the IDEA conference in French Lick and a hog roast on Sunday in Brownstown. The watermelon in Jackson county are out of this world and we enjoyed tasting some at the picnic.

There was an article about Matt and the campaign in the Brownstown Newspaper on Monday, you can access it at the link below.

The Jefferson Jackson Dinner in Orange County last night was a great celebration of the county and the return of the IDEA conference to French Lick. Matt spoke during the dinner and met with many constituents from the area, including one gentleman who is 100 years old and still active in the political process!
